Front Ensemble Instructor

Position Overview

Spectre Percussion is seeking a Front Ensemble Instructor to teach, support, and refine the educational and musical experience of our front ensemble percussionists. This role helps implement the pedagogical, technical, and rehearsal approach established by the Front Ensemble Manager.
 

The Front Ensemble Instructor works directly with members to support musical achievement, timing, stroke mechanics, performer responsibility, sound quality, and overall production clarity throughout the season.
 

Key Tasks

• Teach mallet technique, timing, touch, articulation, keyboard mechanics, and auxiliary percussion responsibilities

• Support musical ensemble timing, balance, sound quality, dynamics, and performance achievement

• Reinforce the front ensemble technical program and established rehearsal approach

• Provide clear, constructive member feedback during rehearsals, sectionals, and performances

• Communicate musical needs, equipment concerns, and sectional progress directly to the Front Ensemble Manager

• Support member preparation, accountability, rehearsal habits, and a positive section culture

• Assist with front ensemble setup, teardown, cable organization, and equipment management during rehearsal blocks and performance runs

• Assist with equipment repair and maintenance, along with equipment inventory 
   

Qualifications & Desired Traits

• Must be at least 23 years old (or aged out of WGI Percussion) to be considered.

• Strong understanding of front ensemble technique, keyboard mechanics, timing, touch, electronic integration, performer responsibility, and musical achievement

• WGI or DCI marching/teaching experience highly preferred

• Ability to take direction effectively

• Ability to support ensemble coverage needs and attend at least one full rehearsal weekend per month

• Access to a phone, email, computer, reliable internet, and the tools needed to review sheet music, audio files, video, schedules, and rehearsal materials
